I arrived in Shanghai 22 July. Well, actually 23 july – just past midnigt. The flight was 3 hours late – due to heavy traffic?! How on earth heavy traffic can occur in scheduled air traffic is a mystery to me. Probally because of the solar eclipse, which gave Chongqing a special significance (all flights were completely booked!)

Shanghai is impressive. It looks like a big construction site. Especially the bund – where I today walked for an hour to find somewhere to cross the construction site and get to the river. In wain I might add! Beacuse of this, and the threat of imminent rain, I withdrew to the Shanghai national sport: Shopping.

Yes – all brands are represented. KFC, McDonalds, Starbucks, Pizza Hut. And of course all luxurious brands: Bulgari, tissot, rolex, mulberry, la coste, donna karen etc.

I went via the subway (impressive!!! imagine a subway where each train is 1 km long, and where the station is a complete shopping mall underground. People square has 18 exits – and they are FAR from eachother) to Xu jia Hua – two shopping centres with computers, hifi and photo equipment. I bought filters for my digital camera and a tripod (I was irritated that some of my pictures of the eclipse was shaken!)… And no I feel better: Spending money is alway fun.
