I arrived in TokyoJapan, early sunday morning on november 8th after a 6½ hour flight from Bangkok. What a wonderful world.

I arrived very early in Bangkok, actually already at 16.00, even though I would fly off at 23.55. Only to find out, that All Nippon Airways did not open for check-in until 2 hours before flight. And I was not determined to wait in the check-in area for 6 hours… What to do?

I thought: Well, let’s see, how flexible this ticket actually is. So I checked, that there was 2 -3 other Star Alliance flights leaving Bangkok that evening – including Thai – where you can check in up to 6 hours before. So a quick visit to the ticket office of Thai, and vupti, I had changed the same-day flight from ANA to Thai – and saved 2 hours of waiting in the airport plus got immidiate check-in possibility. That is great service: Thank you Star Alliance!

Anyway, I arrived in Japan, and to my surprise, the 20 degrees did not feel cold at all. Still doesn’t. But I am bringing a fleece, for the 9 degrees at nights get to cold for me now.

I stay one week in Tokyo, with daytrips to Nikko, Mt. Fuji and Hakone. Anyway, I have so far visited the following places in Tokyo:

  • Asakusa and the Senjori Temple. Very touristic!
  • Roppongi, the foreigner area and nightlife area… Yiie ha
  • Tokyo Tower – looks just like the Eiffel Tower in Paris. And nice views also
  • Ginza. The upmarket shoppin area. According to history, this was the silversmith area, so now japanese have fun thinking about this area, where they used to create money is now the area, where you spent money!
  • Akihabara – the electronics capital of Tokyo. the only place, besides Singapore, where I have seen complete department stores selling electronics. And the only place ever, where I have seen music stores in 7 floors selling CDs, DVDs and BlueRay discs only!!!
