Merry christmas to everyone… Christmas is a serious issue here in Mexico…

People go to the midnight mass in church, and then party all night long… So that everything is basically closed on the 25th. Anyway. I enjoyed christmas in the comfort of my all-inclusive hotel  – and I had Mexican christmas food:

Bean and beets salad
Pork loin with mash potatoes
mahi mahi with… mash potatoes
Christmas cake (chocolate and cream)

Nice… But not the same as the danish duck or flæskesteg. And also very different from stuffed Turkey, as they use in the US where I just come from.

Christmas carols and lots of Feliz Navidad greetings … But not so different, except from of course, that I started the day with

WORLD CLASS SCUBA DIVING

at Palancar Bricks on the Cozumel reefs and followed up by Columbia Shallow… Two very nice dives (6-7 on my 10-scale)… So in other words: I have seen better.

I have had 6 dives here: Palancar Canyons (outstanding canyons, beautiful, 8/10), Dalalih (6/10), Paso Del Cedral (7/10), Punta Tunich (6/10), Palancar Bricks (8/10) and Columbia Shallow (6/10 – lots of marine life; small stuff). The waters are clear and warm, but there is almost no corals (especially soft corals) and little marine life… Oh yes, I saw some nurse sharks, turtes (actually many) but apart from that not much…

So… I might be judmental, but in my book Fiji is much better and Similan Islands in Thailand (especially Richlieu Rock) is still among my favorites.

But Mexico also have something quite different to offer: Cenote diving – cavern diving… For that I must go to Playa Del Carmen (ferry from Cozumel)… Stay tuned
