After Oneness level II I was really tired of Fiji … especially the rainy weather. And as I had heard, that the other divesites I considered wasn’t as good as the one I had already done, I decided
to go to Manta Ray Island to snorkel with Manta Rays. I thoroughly checked with the resort, that it was Manta Ray season, and that there were Manta Rays..
You see, to get from SavuSavu to Manta Ray Island, you need to fly 1,5 hour, have a stay over in Nadi, then take a 3 hour catamaran and rhen ½ hour sppedboat transfer… So it is a LOOONG time for almost no distance.
Long story short: I arrived at Manta Ray Island Resort at 12pm on 21 june for 1 night … To be told, that there was no Manta Rays that day. Futher, there hadn’t been any for a week.
Here I was, spending good money and time on getting there, and then realizing, that I might not get to see them anyway. Damn.
But I did a silent prayer and luck struck. I was awakened by drums monday morning at 7am signalling that there were Manta Rays… Out of bed and in the speedboat immidiately.
One word: Waau. There were 4 Manta Rays swimming and feeding. And they were just a mere ½ meter away from me. I swam with them for almost an hour.
Beautiful creatures.
My dream came true… Manta Rays at last. After diving and snorkelling in more than 20 countries. YES!
