Himeji is a small city on the line from Osaka to Hiroshima. And it is also known for the most majestic castle (Himeji Castle) in Japan, which has never been ruined by war. According to guidebooks it would be a crime, not to see it. So I went…

Waaau. This is a fantastic experience. The size, the area, the location. And the fact, that almost all of the castles interior is viewable is amazing. I shot many many pictures and felt the war and stronghold of the castle by walking around.

What amazes m most is the details and the thought processes: The castle itself is within a moat, within a moat, within a moat – and to get to the castles main door, which is heavily armed, you must go through the outer area, the courtyards of the castle, and a labyrinth (spiral) of access paths. Everything of course uphill – so this castle is almost invincible – or at least huundreds of years ago, before our modern warfare was invented.

Nearby the castle is a newly establish japanese garden – Kokoen. Actually 9 gardens with specifc themes… It was beautiful and tranquil.
