I arrived in Xi’An the 14 JUL 2009 after a 2 hour flight from Beijing… And then I had a 1½ hour ride from the airport to my hotel… Canaan International at the centre of Xi’An.

The hotel is a bit worn, and it seems like the floor isn’t clean… But it is still great. Especially the location and rates is great. I was upgraded from an economic room to a deluxe suite – they want more westeners to come here I think…

A few seconds after check-in I got a call asking if everything was to my pleasure. And I was reassured, that the Foreign Guest Manager would do everything I needed to make my stay great. I have now extended my original 2 days to 4 days here, partly because I am tired of being on the road all the time, and partly because I have a living room, a big bed in the bedroom (however, very hard, like in beijing) and an ok bathroom… And a couple of windows not to forget (this is not nessecary in all rooms in China!)…

Xian is a middle size city – only 8 million population! – so it is fairly small. But it once was the capital of China, so the people are proud, and they also have a few very interesting spots.

Amongst them are, that the old silk way actually starts here. Another is the Qin Tomb for an earlier emperor, then there are the Emperors Hot springs, the Banpo museum (a settlement of humans dating back 6000 years!) and finally the greatest of them all. The Terracotta warriors. Mind boggling. And a separate post.
