This morning, I arrived in Bangkok at 5.25. Now I read in a danish newspaper that there is declared cease of civil rights in Pattaya and Bangkok. http://www.berlingske.dk/article/20090412/verden/904120308/
This however, doesnt stop the new year festivities, Songkran, which is the Thai New Year. Always on 13 APR. And all thais have 2-3 holidays in this regard.
Immidiately after I left my hotel, I was – as tradition dictates – completely soaked with water. Everybody spashes water on you for good luck. There are even tank trucks driving around and spashing water – and on every corner you can purchase more or less advanced water pistols and guns…. FUN is another part of Thai culture.
However, I will be here only a few days as this is actually transit to Australia. You see, Indias internal infrastructure is also impacting external: There are no direct flights to Australia. At least not with Star Alliance. So I had to have a stop over – and what better place than New Year in Bangkok!
The problems? I havent noticed any. And neither have anyone else I have met. But then again: The thais are peaceful people…
